Youth Council

Creation of Bouchard Youth Council

Our concerne with the issues the youth face in the community and off reserve and we think that the solution to it lies with taking control of their own issues

They dont have a say in the issues that concern then, like education, recreation, social activities, or what economic opportunities are available to them. sometime it might feel hopeless. and our members off reserve have as many problems.

the reason you dont have anything is because someone else is making those decisions and rules for you, those people are out of touch and don t know what you want or need, you need socialization with other youth and band members. you  NEED SOMETHING TO FEEL GOOD ABOUT a place to hang out and do things.

a place the youth can use for their business and pleasure

Objectives of the bouchard Youth council

The bouchard Elders of the Pays Plat Band and descendants of Louie Bouchard have created The Bouchard Youth Council of the Pays Plat Band.

to appoint youth members of the family that will bring any issue of any family youth member to the CEO of the Bouchard Council, and will actively work to achieve the needs of the family youth members or Bouchard Youth Council resolution to the satisfaction of the family

To meet regularly or technologically with family and come to a conclusion on all issues of concern, whether on reserve or off concerning the youth

We will post our positions on all issues for Pays Plat Band members to see so that they can agree or disagree

we will lead by example.

We will operate the same as a band Council and use Bouchard Youth Council Resolutions as the way to signify our agreements with the Pays Plat Band Council  or other entity or to express our support of an issue or to reject an issue

the acceptance of honorary members of the pays plat band. who include members who agree with our policies and want to participate in discussions with the bouchard youth  Council on critical issues could be part of this agreement to assist them in the process

Youth Council summary

there is about 3500 square feet of space you could fit a tipi in there you could fit 8 tipis in there.

i don't have one on this program.

FURNITURE, PICNIC TABLES, TIPI CHAIRS,2 POOL TABLEs, basketball nets, badminton nets,  video games all for profit, put in the building. would change everything for the youth, it would give them somewhere and something to do

there could be so much to do,

The Band needs to OPEN THE BUILDING FOR THE YOUTH TO USE and manage

a place to hang out and SOCIALIZE ,
maybe discuss the issues they want to resolve.
learn how to manage a building. and fundraise.

the youth must be empowered

organize yourselves into a youth council
take control over your affairs
the band needs to know what you  want
and you need a voice BETWEEN THE BAND AND THE PUBLIC

when you organize yourselves you will see positive changes

when you speak as one.

how do we do that?

lets find out

Mandate (politics), the power granted by an electorate,
you can vote or appoint these positions

Each position is responsible for a mandate

Note:
the fund raising could include bingos. hall rentals, office rentals, THE POSSIBILITES ARE ENDLESS

we would be developing policy regarding our issues on how to resolve them.

elders appoint/ the Bouchard youth council

community reps

CEO 18 over traditonal diet, plan increase in resource use due to increase in our use of the pays plat bands traditional territories.

CEO, 12-17  recreation programs

ceo nder 12 mandate of playgrounds,

the membership discuss the issue brought forward by a member
the executive resolves those issues and reports back to you the membership

we conduct business by resolution of the youth Council after its passed by a simple majority of the youth much like the Band council does.

try to achieve concensus

what kind of issues

, things like educating our members on aboriginal/treaty rights that so many not only youth aren't able to exercise their aboriginal & treaty right because of the cost of hunting and fishing. usually travel is needed, pals, rifles, ammo but the biggest cost is transportation, its not cheap. what can we do about that and why can't we train our own members for pal which i don't agree with anyway. It is the youth who must be taught to protect our lands and resources, we need to protect our rights/and educate the future generations on our rights and traditional territories.

the swings are broken and someone got hurt on it, It needs to be fixed

we want to manage programs funded for youth

An Aboriginal or treaty right means nothing
if you can't exercise t
hose rights

unable to eat a traditional diet

the fact that our elders aren't able to eat their traditional diet, moose, rabbit, partridge, duck,, goose, beaver, because they can no longer hunt, the single mom, the disabled, the broke, the bad hunter, who is responsible for their aboriginal right to eat that food. We need to find a way to provide them or support them with a traditional diet that they are entitled to.

Sharing is suppose to be a big part of our nature/culture and tradition, we need to share our food resources for our members and manage our hunts on the whole of the traditional lands of the pays plat band

We have enough traditional territories to do this and we should use those territories and build hunting shacks, docks, ect  to display our use of the land and give us somewhere to stay when hunting the area,

.We need to hunt those lands to feed our people and to train the youth while doing it.

chief gerald bouchard  used to have people hunt and provide the people with moose as part of the work programs. I dont think anyone was without moose meat

We need our share of the harvest and we need to harvest within our entire traditional territories to feed our  needy members such as the elderly and single mom and handi capped some traditional food.

We need our share of the harvest of our traditional territories. we need to assure our members families a moose a year. this is a cultural issue.

We the elders, the descendants of Louie Bouchard hereby agree that the family must organize their efforts to secure the future of the Bouchard family within the RST 1850 treaty area, and the pays plat band within their  traditional territories.

We are the “Bouchard Council of the Pays Plat Band” as of may 15  2025 we will be known by that phrase

Do hereby resolve:

The Bouchard Council has discussed the need for our youth to be empowered over certain aspects of their lives and is a necessary part of growing up

the youth must learn their rights and demand their own decisions be part of the Band process

And that the Bouchard Council supports the Youth in organizing their efforts to have a voice in the Band council system where they have the power over certain aspects of their own lives

 Therefore be it resolved
That the Bouchard Council supports a youth council that is not program specific or controlled by the band council but controlled by the youth themselves and that the band must recognize them within the band council process
